Mysterious death: missing 86-year-old from Oise found in Somme

In northern France, a tragic fate has come to an end after months of uncertainty. The 86-year-old René Duquenne, who disappeared from his home in Boulogne-la-Grasse on May 10, 2025, was found dead near Piennes-Onvillers in the Somme six months later, on November 16, 2025. When he disappeared, the elderly gentleman suffered from memory and disorientation problems, which made his family and the authorities even more worried. France Bleu reports that the Gendarmerie Oise opened an investigation into disturbing disappearances shortly after his disappearance.

René Duquenne left home on the evening of May 10 after having dinner with his family. According to reports, he was last seen in Conchy-les-Pots by a relative at 7:15 p.m. The family immediately informed the gendarmerie, who quickly mobilized a large search team. This Saturday, drones with thermal imaging cameras, service dogs and around ten military forces were used to search for the missing person. These intensive searches lasted until the early hours of the morning and on Sunday around 100 volunteers joined the search party.

The search for René Duquenne

Although the gendarmerie was immediately alerted, the first few days were unsuccessful. The search dragged on and police were on alert until May 12. It was also requested to provide information on the location of the 1.72 meter tall octogenère, who was wearing a cap at the time of his disappearance. All information could be reported directly to the brigade on 03 44 42 79 17. Despite all efforts, the search yielded no results.

Six months after his disappearance, in the midst of uncertain days, the sad news finally emerged that René Duquenne's life had ended. The municipality of Piennes-Onvillers announced this on behalf of the family. His funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, November 18, 2025. The family has expressed its gratitude to everyone who actively participated in the search operations and supported them during this difficult time.

This incident not only shocked the family, but also affected the entire community. The search for relatives and loved ones clearly illustrates how important neighborly help and a sense of community are in such difficult times.
