Raid in Peine: 8 kilos of cocaine seized – suspects arrested!

In a large-scale operation today, authorities in Peine seized a considerable amount of drugs. On June 25, 2025, at the request of the Hildesheim public prosecutor's office, the Braunschweig Central Criminal Inspectorate carried out searches in Peine and Uelzen. Over 8 kilograms of cocaine and a mid-five-figure sum of cash were confiscated. Two 38-year-old men, who are considered suspects, were temporarily arrested and are now facing arrest warrants that were issued due to the risk of escape. Interestingly, the accused did not comment on the allegations made, which does not make the investigation easy.

The recent raids are part of a broader strategy to combat drug trafficking. The officers in Braunschweig had already seized 3.5 kilograms of cocaine in July of the previous year, which underlines the intensity of the ongoing investigation. Experts from the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) emphasize that combating internationally organized drug crime is one of their central tasks. Drug-related crime, as defined in Germany, includes all crimes under the Narcotics Act (BtMG) and represents a significant threat to internal security.

Challenges in drug trafficking

Drug crime is a significant component of organized crime that threatens security in Germany and beyond. An increase in drug manufacturing worldwide has made classic drugs such as cocaine more accessible. In 2023, around 347,000 drug crime cases were recorded by the police in Germany, which corresponds to an increase of 2 percent compared to the previous year. These figures make it clear how strong the pressure is on the security authorities to take action against the illegal drug trade.

Drug crime is dominated by the trade in cannabis, which has been partially legal since April 2024, but the numbers also pose a serious threat. Authorities must also counter the growing market for new psychoactive substances (NPS), which often appear unexpectedly and cause effects similar to conventional drugs. This is often associated with health and social problems that should not be underestimated.

Combat strategies

The BKA's initiative includes not only classic drugs such as heroin and cocaine, but also synthetic drugs and illegal distribution on the Internet. This requires highly specialized investigative work to identify and arrest the groups of perpetrators. The handling of chemicals that are used to produce illegal drugs is also strictly regulated.

Overall, the challenge for law enforcement remains enormous. Despite the successes achieved in the fight against drugs, the supply pressure and demand for narcotics remains high. This is underlined by the multiple mention of drug deaths in Germany, which rose to around 2,230 in 2023 and mostly suffer from the long-term damage of drug use. The police will continue to do everything they can to protect citizens and dismantle criminal structures to ensure a safe society.

The current decision by the police in Peine is just another step in a long and complex fight against drug-related crime. Let's stay tuned to see how the situation develops.
