Salzgitter receives approval for new security steel SECURE 500®!
The Salzgitter Group has recent successes that are important not only for the company, but also for the German security industry. The Defense Technical Department 91 (WTD 91) has granted the extended material approval for the high-strength safety steel SECURE 500®. This approval according to the Technical Delivery Conditions TL 2350-0000 extends to steel in thicknesses of 6 to 25 millimeters intended for military applications, in particular vehicles and protective systems. Salzgitter AG reports this in its Newsroom.
The steel is manufactured in the Ilsenburger Grobblech subsidiary and, thanks to its high hardness, offers important properties for protection against ballistic threats. In order to obtain approval, the steel was examined in detail with regard to its bombardment behavior as well as its weldability and explosiveness. The approval thus proves the quality and reliability of the SECURE 500® steel, which is of high relevance for the Bundeswehr, as highlighted in an article by ESUT.
Secure future for defense
The importance of these approvals is also reflected in the fact that more than 50% of the steel requirements of various military vehicle variants can be covered by SECURE 500® and the newly approved quality SECURE 450®. Future approvals are even expected for the SECURE 400® and SECURE 600® steel grades. Thorsten Gintaut, Managing Director Sales, emphasizes the crucial role that this expansion plays in the company's development.
It is noteworthy that in times of growing demands in the security and defense sector, Salzgitter AG is not only responding to current needs, but is also actively working on the development of additional types of steel. The production of quality steel in Germany is seen as essential for economic self-sufficiency, which gives many pause for thought when considering the geopolitical realities.
Strong partnerships
Salzgitter AG has also qualified as the preferred new A supplier for SECURE steel grades at a large system house. In addition, discussions are ongoing with other system houses to ensure the future supply of urgently needed steel. Thorsten Möllmann, Head of Group Communications, emphasizes that the company is taking responsibility to support defense capability. The production of extremely strong steels with high surface quality is viewed as the company's key competence, as shown at Stahleisen.
Overall, the success of the Salzgitter Group shows that with good hands and innovative approaches, positive developments are possible even in uncertain times. The future looks bright and the entire SECURE product family is ready to meet the needs of the market.
