On Tuesday afternoon there was a dramatic traffic accident in the tranquil town of Messingen, located in the Emsland district, which shocked the residents. A 22-year-old driver left the road for unknown reasons, collided with a tree and landed on his side in a front yard. Both the driver and his 17-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries in the incident and were immediately taken to hospital by ambulance. Fortunately, according to the police, there is no danger to the lives of the two young accident victims. The material damage caused is estimated at around 25,000 euros, as NDR reports.

In 2019, a frightening total of 6,478 traffic accidents were recorded in the Emsland district, in which 16 people died and many more were seriously or slightly injured. The most common causes of serious personal injury are inattention, unreasonable speed and failure to yield right of way.
