Holiday leisure in the museum village: children experience country life in 1925!
An exciting project is currently taking place in the middle of the picturesque Lüneburg Heath, which not only awakens the curiosity of young explorers, but also provides a deep insight into bygone times. The holiday leisure in Hösseringen Museum Village, in which students from Suderburg and Südheide take part, gives children the opportunity to experience rural life over 100 years ago up close.
With a colorful program that ranges from felting to sewing to blacksmithing, participants are actively introduced to historical crafts. Under the direction of museum educator Franziska Riedmiller, the 16 children not only learn practical skills, but also important values such as democracy and participation. For example, they were allowed to choose the name of a bag for a tic-tac-toe game and were also allowed to harvest potatoes and vegetables themselves.
Insights and experiences in the museum village
The Hösseringen Museum Village itself extends over more than 130,000 square meters and shows the way of life and work from 1600 to 1900 in 30 different historical buildings. One of the highlights is the Brümmerhof from 1644, which offers an insight into the large-scale farming economy. Here visitors can also discover ancient crafts such as beekeeping, weaving and blacksmithing.
Another visitor magnet is the Heide discovery trail with 18 stations, which provides knowledge about the regional flora and fauna. There is a playground for younger guests where they can try out old children's games. The museum village is dedicated to the living history of the Lüneburg Heath and thus enables an eventful excursion for the whole family.
Opening times, prices and more
Anyone who would like to visit the Hösseringen Museum Village can do so from Tuesday to Sunday and on public holidays from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The entrance fee is 7 euros for adults, while children and young people under 18 have free access. There are also special prices for groups and birthday parties. Particularly clever: With a combination ticket you also get reduced access to the Hankensbüttel Otter Center and the Müden Wildlife Park, which makes a visit twice as worthwhile.
At the end of the holiday camp, the village simulation game “Taler, Taler, you have to go hiking” will take place, in which the children can put their experiences and what they have learned into practice in a playful context. Parents and relatives are cordially invited to visit the museum village on the last day and see the results of their offspring. The entire project is also supported by “Museum Makes You Strong”, which underlines the importance of such initiatives.
The Hösseringen Museum Village remains not only a place of history, but also a lively space for creative development and collaborative learning. Anyone who is interested in discovering the lively culture of rural life now has the best opportunity!
