Packing campaign in the Uelzen town hall: Help for Ukraine & Germany!

This Friday, December 5th, 2025, the Johanniter Christmas Trucker campaign in the Uelzen town hall sent a strong signal of solidarity. The public packing campaign, which was supported by volunteers, supporters and guests, aimed to put together aid packages for people in need in Ukraine and Germany. Mayor Jürgen Markwardt and District Administrator Dr. Heiko Blume were also there to support the initiative and express their appreciation for the commitment of everyone involved. The Uelzen press reports that up to 300 packages are to be packed in Uelzen.

In the midst of a challenging humanitarian situation, the campaign shows how important solidarity is in society. The intention behind the packages is clear: help for economically weak families, people with disabilities and children in schools and kindergartens. The contents of the aid packages include flour, rice, pasta, sugar, cooking oil, toothbrushes, toothpaste, chocolate and small toys - all things that can make the recipient's everyday life a little better. This campaign is not just in demand in Uelzen; Other packing campaigns can also be found in front of supermarkets and in schools in the region.

A Toto Bay for the action

The packing campaign is organized by the Johanniter Christmas trucker team in the Harz-Heide regional association. The current collection campaign is scheduled to run until December 12th, with various Johanniter collection points being set up. The plan is for the convoy with the relief supplies to leave for Romania on Boxing Day. It is an action that not only addresses the needs of people in this country, but also takes a look beyond the border. For example, help is urgently needed in eastern Ukraine, where cities like Izjum are suffering greatly from the effects of the war. As Deutschland.de reports, the population in such areas has shrunk sharply; Today, out of 60,000 people, only 25,000 remain in Izjum.

Support comes not only from large organizations, but also from private individuals. The artist Johannes Kolz from Trier, for example, decided to bring relief goods such as drawing supplies and toys to Isjum. He is in contact with the German-Ukrainian Society, which has encouraged him to offer his drawing courses in Ukraine. Such individual initiatives show that everyone can make a contribution and ultimately every help, no matter how small, counts.

It remains to be hoped that the exciting campaigns in Uelzen and elsewhere will continue to find numerous supporters and that the collection campaigns for the Johanniter Christmas Truckers will be a great success. As we prepare for the contemplative time of the year, one thing is certain: shared commitment can make a big difference.
