Breakdown atmosphere at the ZDF television garden: Lafer fights with the barrel!

A very special finale was celebrated in the ZDF TV Garden on September 28, 2025: The last edition of this season was all about Oktoberfest. Moderator Andrea Kiewel welcomed numerous bands and singers on the Lerchenberg in Mainz, while the beer was flowing in Munich. It was the 190th edition of the famous Oktoberfest, which was duly honored even in the TV Garden.

A highlight of the show was the appearance of the TV chef Johann Lafer, who took over the traditional tapping of the barrel. But not everything went according to plan: Lafer had quite a bit of trouble with the tap. The beer kept overflowing as the spectators watched in excitement. Kiewel didn't miss the opportunity and made some funny comments about the mishaps while Lafer had his hands full getting the beer back under control.

Beer prices and Oktoberfest plans

In the midst of the chaos surrounding the beer keg, Kiewel also discussed the expensive prices that prevail at the original Oktoberfest in Munich. She asked the audience about the prices for Oktoberfest specialties, sparking a lively discussion. A pint of beer should therefore cost an impressive 15.50 euros, while a bottle of water costs 10.90 euros. Kiewel could only respond with a joke and compared the water prices to buying an entire spring. She admitted that she had never attended the Kassenfest in Munich herself, but is planning to visit the Oktoberfest next year - perhaps in the hope of better prices.

Things got particularly funny when Lafer suggested that the audience drink from the barrel at the same time, which the audience applauded. Despite the difficulties, he finally managed to save the barrel, even if the spectators came away empty-handed in the end. A reflection of Oktoberfest: Raise your cups, even if the drinks don't always flow as planned.

This Oktoberfest finale on the ZDF television garden was remembered not only because of the boozy adventure, but also because of the humorous anecdotes surrounding the high prices and Lafer's tapping mishaps. This only makes the anticipation for the next Oktoberfest even greater!
