Uelzen in the magic of Christmas: Advent season opens with market and ice rink!

Today is a very special day in Uelzen because the “Uelzen Christmas magic” has officially begun. On Friday afternoon, Mayor Jürgen Markwardt opened the festive celebrations, which culminated with the switching on of the beautiful Christmas lights at the town hall and in the city center at 4:45 p.m. As the Uelzen press reports, all visitors can look forward to an extensive selection at the Christmas market every day from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. until December 23rd.

The Christmas market stretches across St. Mary's Church Square and offers a wealth of winter delicacies. From fragrant bratwursts to warming mulled wine to roasted almonds and vegan dishes - everyone will find something to their taste here. Even the sweet treats and handmade decorations should not be missed. And for everyone looking for winter fun, the “mycity on ice” ice rink is open until December 26th. Entry costs from four euros and city vouchers are accepted as a method of payment.

Cultural highlights and festive traditions

Another highlight are the windows of the Advent calendar at the Old Town Hall, which open daily at 6 p.m. and are open from November 30th to December 23rd. Under the motto “magical cultural places in the city and district of Uelzen”, the artist collective KUNSTWERK presents impressive motifs. From the first Advent onwards, every day from 5:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. you will be invited to an “Open Singing” in St. Mary's Church - a free event that is guaranteed to spread a good atmosphere.

Like from the Hanseatic city of Uelzen confirmed, the Advent season will also start with an exciting lights and lantern walk on November 29th, which begins at 5:15 p.m. at the ice rink. The first door of the Advent calendar will then open at 6 p.m. Children can look forward to St. Nicholas Day on December 6th, when there will be a personal visit from St. Nicholas and a hands-on activity.

Community and tradition

The city knows how to celebrate together and is expecting numerous visitors from the region and beyond in the coming weeks. From November 28th to December 30th, tickets for the Christmas raffle in aid of the museum in Uelzen can be purchased. The main prize is a Pedelec worth 3,000 euros.

The “Gute Bude” and the “Engelsbude” offer special handmade gift ideas all year round that are perfect for the upcoming holidays. At the Christmas market, a two-story Christmas pyramid on Gudesstrasse will also provide winter hot drinks. Small daily concerts and a varied supporting program promise an unforgettable experience, making the Uelzen Christmas magic a real magnet for young and old this year.

So secure your next free evening and stop by - it will be a festival full of tradition, cuisine and festivity! For more information about the event and program, visit the Christmas Magic website.
