Wrestedt is planning a gigantic battery storage park – 40,000 households will benefit!

An exciting project is underway in the southern part of Bollensen: The Green NRG GmbH from Munich is planning to build an impressive battery storage park. Numerous battery cells are to be installed over an area of 2.2 hectares, which is roughly equivalent to three football fields, which will store excess energy and feed it back into the power grid when necessary. The planned storage park will consist of 50 containers and 25 transformers, with a grid connection capacity of around 125 megawatts.

The building and environmental committee of the municipality of Wrestedt has already recommended the preparation of a project-related development plan. However, the final decision lies with the Wrestedter Administrative Committee. The political committees of the Aue municipality also have to adapt the land use plan so that the project can finally start. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027.

Important key data of the project

An important aspect is the power supply: the storage is powered by electricity from the Avacon network. There is no direct connection to wind turbines or the planned agri-photovoltaic park. Green NRG will also cover all costs for the construction management process and the necessary expert reports, but the municipality of Wrestedt must first make advance payments. These costs will later be reimbursed by Green NRG GmbH.

Battery storage in the context of the energy transition

Battery storage plays a crucial role in the integration of renewable energies into the power grid. According to that Federal Association of Solar Industry e.V. Almost 600,000 new battery storage systems were put into operation in 2024 - a jump of almost 50%. These storage systems are particularly important for using solar energy efficiently and integrating it into the electricity system. The legal framework is being adjusted to further support this growth trend.

The use of battery storage is also subject to new regulationsEnergy Industry Actand thatSolar peak lawpromoted, which, among other things, introduce an obligation to tolerate property owners in public spaces. These legal innovations are intended to ensure that the connection of energy storage systems is in the overriding public interest, which could give the expansion of green technologies an additional boost.

The trend towards battery storage is evident throughout Germany, and this technology is also becoming increasingly important in the European context. The booming market not only offers opportunities for many companies, but also for consumers, who can benefit from a more sustainable energy supply. A trend sport that is also very popular in the region around Bollensen.
