Vechta is preparing for the 42nd round of “Athletes Against Hunger”, which begins on December 1st. Commitment to Africa!

December 1st is just around the corner and that means: It's time again for “Athletes Against Hunger”! This popular campaign is in its 42nd round and has been running successfully for 35 years. Organized jointly by OM-Medien and the Vechta district sports association, this commitment is committed to combating hunger in Africa. Every year, millions of dollars are collected as part of this initiative, which primarily goes to the People for People Foundation.
What can you expect? The 23rd Dinklager Advent Run will take place on Sunday, November 29th, and has already had over 433 participants (as of Friday morning!). These include 60 athletes who registered via “Dinklusiv”. The Advent run is exciting: the Bambini run starts at 10:00 a.m., followed by the school run at 10:15 a.m. and the main run and the everyone's run at 11:00 a.m.
Dinklage and Bakum in focus
But that's not all! The “Bakum is booming” event will also take place on the same weekend. Visitors can look forward to a youth mixed tournament on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. From Sunday afternoon a volleyball tournament will be held with 28 fully booked hobby teams. Mayor Tobias Averbeck will also be there with a bet - the promise to ensure a good atmosphere!
On Monday, the official start day of “Athletes Against Hunger”, the Adolf Kolping School (AKS) Lohne will take action. The school is selling tickets for just 50 cents until December 12th, and the prices are promising: a hot air balloon ride or tickets for Rasta Vechta attract buyers. The AKS Lohne has had a special significance for the campaign since 1993 - the students and teachers are involved in volleyball and football tournaments for a good cause.
A new look at Ethiopia
This season, “Athletes Against Hunger” is already planning the course for the coming years. In addition to the sporting activities, a new project in Ethiopia will also be presented on Monday. OM media sports director Carsten Boning spoke with Dr. Met Sebastian Brandis to discuss future support in Ethiopia. A second school is currently being built there. Since 1984, inspired by the famine in Ethiopia, the initiative has impressively shown how great things can be achieved together.

The successes to date cannot be overlooked: 4.83 million euros have been collected over three and a half decades. The events, which take place annually from December to February, are a mixture of club championships, hobby tournaments, hikes and much more - always for a good cause. Thousands of Vechta residents show their big hearts year after year, so that OM's campaign has now become the largest popular sports movement in the region.
