New change of director: Geriatric care in Cloppenburg improved!
Something is happening in the region's healthcare system: Prof. Dr. Johan Lorenzen has taken over the management of the geriatric clinics of the Sister Euthymia Foundation. The aim of his appointment is to significantly improve geriatric care in Cloppenburg, Vechta and Lohne. According to nwzonline.de, Lorenzen not only brings a breath of fresh air, but also a clear goal: the closer integration of the geriatric departments To better exploit synergies and make the field more visible.
Ulrich Pelster, CEO of the foundation, emphasizes the need to improve coordination and quality standards in geriatric care. In his new role, Lorenzen coordinates the further development of the acute geriatric departments at the Cloppenburg, Lohne and Vechta locations. The development of strategic care concepts for older people, including dementia care and early rehabilitation approaches, plays a central role.
Changes through hospital reform
But the focus is not only on internal restructuring. As part of the current hospital reform, the Sankt-Josefs-Hospital Cloppenburg also has to make some adjustments. [ses-stiftung.de]. From April 1st, applications for the planned range of services can be submitted to the state of Lower Saxony.
The new service groups, which replace the previous specialist departments, are now more differentiated. The following key areas were identified in the field of internal medicine: general internal medicine, geriatrics, gastroenterology and cardiology. Lorenzen is new to the company's senior physician team due to his dual role as chief physician of geriatrics and general internal medicine.
A strong team structure
But Lorenzen is not the only one who brings a breath of fresh air. Three other chief physicians work around him, concentrating on their areas of expertise. Dr. Achim Gutersohn heads cardiology and has established round-the-clock heart attack care for Cloppenburg. Dr. Borislav Benedek brings innovative examination methods to gastroenterology. For outpatient care, Dr. Stephan Lüders, who runs one of the largest dialysis services in Lower Saxony, and Dr. Jörg Bäsecke, who is known for his innovative treatments for oncological patients, is responsible.
Prof. Dr. Lorenzen, who was born in New York City and grew up in Hanover, also brings extensive experience. With his specialist training in nephrology since 2016 and as a professor, he continues to dedicate himself to special nephrological consultations, including transplant follow-up care and genetic kidney diseases.
The signs are good for an improvement in geriatric care in the region. The right course has been taken with the new management structure and strategic planning, so that older people in Cloppenburg, Vechta and Lohne can be looked after even better.
