Violence and robberies shake Wilhelmshaven in one night!

On the night of last Saturday to Sunday, October 5, 2025, several incidents occurred in Wilhelmshaven that kept the local police on their toes. There was an attack on a young man as well as two brutal robberies around the stock exchange, which are now leading to investigations.

The first incident occurred at the Stock Exchange, where a 24-year-old man fell victim to a group of teenagers. After a verbal argument that quickly turned physical, the young man was injured in the face. The perpetrators then fled towards the train station, and some of them were identified by the police. The police are now asking for information from the public in order to fully investigate the incident. Anyone who saw something can call the phone number 04421/9420 report.

Robberies under the stars

However, the night was not only marked by this attack. At around 3:45 a.m., a 52-year-old man was attacked on Markstrasse by two men who were riding an e-scooter. He was pushed to the ground and the perpetrators stole his wallet. The men were able to escape undetected. Another robbery occurred around 12:20 a.m. on Störtebekerstrasse, where a 45-year-old man was attacked with pepper spray. Here too, the cash was stolen from the victim's wallet, but he was unable to provide a description of the perpetrator.

These incidents shed light on the increasing problems with violence and crime in Germany. According to a recent analysis by Statista Although violent crimes account for less than 4% of all crimes recorded by the police, they have a significantly greater impact on people's sense of security. In 2024, the highest number since 2007 was recorded, with around 217,000 violent crimes recorded, and since 2021 the numbers have increased rapidly.

Security situation in Wilhelmshaven

The increasing violent crime is also having a noticeable impact in Wilhelmshaven. Overall societal problems, such as economic insecurities and social tensions, appear to play a role. What is particularly worrying is the increase in the number of young violent perpetrators, which represents a worrying trend: the proportion of young perpetrators rose to over 30%. This can also be attributed to ongoing psychological stress and stress during the corona pandemic.

The police also carried out traffic checks that night: A 26-year-old driver was stopped with a breath alcohol level of 1.74 per mille - his driver's license was confiscated and he was banned from driving further. Another road user, a 57-year-old man, was checked on Mühlenweg without a driver's license.

Citizens' sense of security is severely affected by such incidents. In a survey from May 2024, 94% of Germans said they found violence against people in public positions to be a major problem. The police therefore urgently need the help of the public to shed light on these incidents and to ensure safety in Wilhelmshaven.

The Wilhelmshaven/Friesland police station appeals to anyone who witnessed the incidents to call 04421 942-0 or by email pressestelle@pi-whv.polizei.niedersachsen.de to report and inform the local guards.
