New guidance system in Wilhelmshaven: Better routes to the south beach!

Something is happening in Wilhelmshaven! Under the leadership of Wilhelms Urbanfarm, the city has undertaken an ambitious project to significantly improve the route between the city center and the popular southern beach. This initiative is intended to make orientation easier for citizens and visitors and increase the attractiveness of the region. As nwzonline.de reports, the current route is often unclear and does not offer the best connection to the city's sights.

A new, user-friendly guidance system is being designed in collaboration with the planning office “De Zwarte Hond” from Groningen. This innovative system aims to better exploit the proximity to the sea and the cultural highlights that Wilhelmshaven has to offer. Interested citizens can have their say and take part in an online survey, available until September 23rd. The survey, which can be found at wilhelmshaven.swipocratie.de, only takes three minutes and covers the current situation and future wishes of citizens.

A step into the future

This project is part of a broader initiative to revitalize the city center, which is supported, among other things, by the WILHELMS URBANFARM project. According to innenstadtprogramm.bund.de, not only are conceptual foundations being developed here, but various measures to promote urban farming, such as vertical farming, are also being launched. The aim is to install the city center sustainably and fairly and to establish new multifunctional uses.

Another focus is on promoting the quality of stay and the usability of the urban areas. A focus on a better connection between the city center and the south beach, recommended by the Cima report from 2023, could make the city even more attractive.

Funding and support

The project is financed via the “Sustainable Inner Cities and Centers” funding program of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction. In total, the total eligible costs amount to over 1.4 million euros, of which federal funding accounts for up to 1.3 million euros. The municipal contribution of a good 145,000 euros also shows that the city is ready for solid development.

As umweltbundesamt.de emphasizes, urban development must create lively and livable settlements. Social, economic and environmental requirements play a central role. Future decisions should take into account the needs of the resident population as well as promote economic development.

A special event designed to promote citizen loyalty is a participation workshop that will take place in mid-October. All residents are invited to actively contribute their ideas and suggestions.

The city of Wilhelmshaven is on an exciting path that will not only improve the city center, but also strengthen the region's tourist attraction. Citizens are warmly invited to become part of this process and have their voice!
