In Wilhelmshaven, the police are sounding the alarm: a series of arsons has been causing excitement in the city since May 2025. The incident on Marktstrasse was particularly tragic, in which a child lost his life. In order to put a stop to this flame behind the fire devils, the investigative group “Lux” was created. This group has the difficult task of clarifying the connections between the numerous fires and holding those responsible accountable. Since the investigation began, 64 cases of arson have been registered. The head of the police inspection, Jörg Beensen, emphasizes that the investigations are being conducted on several levels. Among other things, covert measures are also taken to track down the perpetrators. But the conditions at the fire sites make the investigation considerably more difficult. The areas are often severely damaged, so that the location of the traces is heavily influenced by heat or extinguishing water.
Challenges of investigations
The police have not yet been able to provide any concrete answers to the ongoing investigation, even after the tragic fire on Marktstrasse. However, several people, both male and female, are under observation.
