On December 27, 2025, the time has finally come: the AZ Cup, one of the most renowned indoor soccer tournaments in the region, opens its doors at the South Sports Center in Gifhorn. Spectators can enter the hall from 12 p.m. before the official opening begins at 12:30 p.m. with the first kick-off at 1 p.m. Tournament organizer René Dethlefs, who plays a central role at MTV Gamsen, has put a lot of time and commitment into the organization and is looking forward to an exciting event. His experience from recent years will certainly be of use to him. The Aller-Zeitung and the city of Gifhorn actively support the tournament, which is taking place for the fifth time.
René Dethlefs points out that the parking space around the sports center is limited. He therefore recommends that visitors use public transport or carpooling to make the journey as smooth as possible. The tension is rising because on December 6th the preliminary round groups were drawn by Kilian Fischer, the VfL Wolfsburg player. Here is the top view of the groups:

The organizers of the tournament have set clear goals. MTV Gamsen, playing in Group C, hopes to get through the group stage and offer spectators an entertaining tournament. At the same time, there will also be a great after-show party in Georgia's Tavern as part of the event, which will ensure a good atmosphere with free entry.
A cup with heart and purpose
In addition to the sporting highlights, the AZ Cup will also serve a charitable purpose. Last year, the tournament distributed around 9,000 euros to twelve different projects in the city and district of Gifhorn. This shows that the cup reflects not only a sporting but also a social commitment that is taken seriously by the organizers. The application deadline for donations ended on December 24, 2024 - an opportunity that many organizations took advantage of.
Regardless of whether you are a fan, player or just a curious person, indoor football is still very popular in Germany and attracts spectators to the halls. While the professional teams are less represented, indoor football remains mainly for amateur clubs and youth teams. This is also an exciting development that is supported by the long-standing tradition of indoor sports.
