One year of ALS-Wölfe-Mobil: Free excursions for those affected!
The ALS-Wölfe-Mobil celebrates its one-year anniversary on July 1st and is a matter of the heart for many of those affected. This special vehicle is offered by the Krzysztof Nowak Foundation, which was launched in 2002 to support people suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The specially converted and equipped Volkswagen Caddy has been traveling through the region for over a year now and serves a very special purpose.
The ALS-Wölfe-Mobil is aimed not only at the sufferers themselves, but also at their relatives. The best part? The vehicle can be borrowed free of charge for excursions and vacations. More and more people have found out about this offer, with demand steadily increasing since it was announced. Especially in the warm months, the vehicle rarely goes unused and the positive feedback from users speaks for itself. Many people report the advantages that mobile offers – there really is something there!
An integral part of the community
The ALS-Wolfe-Mobil offer is seen as a great enrichment for those affected and their families. Not only does it help improve the quality of life, but it also creates unforgettable experiences. The Krzysztof Nowak Foundation, named after the former VfL Wolfsburg player Krzysztof Nowak, who died of ALS in 2005, has established itself with a clear motto: “Fast help, without a lot of bureaucracy”. The foundation has pursued this goal since its founding and offers financial donations in various areas of life in order to make the lives of patients and those around them easier.
A three-person advisory board advises on the activities and use of the foundation's funds. Wolfgang Hotze and Roy Präger from VfL Wolfsburg and Reiner Müller from Deutsche Bank AG are committed to ensuring that the funds reach where they are needed most. After all, ALS is a treacherous disease that attacks the body extensively, while intellectual functions remain mostly unaffected.
Attention through the Ice Bucket Challenge
In order to raise awareness of the disease ALS, there have been large-scale campaigns such as the Ice Bucket Challenge in the past. In the summer of 2014, this moved thousands of people around the world, including in Germany, and created a wave of solidarity. The challenge, which originated in the US, resulted in a significant amount of donations for ALS research and local ALS charities, including the Krzysztof Nowak Foundation. Celebrities such as Manuel Neuer and Sigmar Gabriel supported the actions and helped raise awareness of the disease.
Although the Ice Bucket Challenge created short-term hype, the fight against ALS and supporting those affected remains a long-term effort, supported by initiatives such as the ALS Wolves Mobile and the work of the Krzysztof Nowak Foundation. Further information about the foundation can be found on the VfL Wolfsburg website.
