Wolfsburg inspires: New factory tour with comfortable ID.3 trailers!

On November 1, 2025, Volkswagen will once again show in Wolfsburg how tradition and modernity can work together harmoniously. Since 1948, people from all over the world have been making a pilgrimage to the VW factory to take a look behind the scenes of car manufacturing. In the last few decades, more than eight million visitors have enjoyed this impressive experience - no wonder that up to 1,000 guests visit the factory every day.

The factory tour has continued to develop over the years and new visitor trailers for the tours were introduced last October. These modern vehicles promise more comfort and safety and are also designed to be barrier-free. The new trailers, which are towed with a fully electric ID.3, offer space for a total of 30 seats and have a total tow length of around 18 meters. Each trailer is around 6.9 meters long and weighs 2.9 tons. The tour leads over a route of around seven kilometers through central production areas such as the press shop, body production and the paint shop. The route is flexibly adapted to the wishes of the guests and the processes in the factory, so that every tour remains a special experience.

Focus on comfort and accessibility

A significant advantage is the new equipped vehicles, which offer, among other things, automatic doors, entry aids and seat belts on all seats. The age limit has been lowered for families: children aged six and over are now also allowed to take part in the tours. There are also two barrier-free trailers with automatic wheelchair platforms to enable access for less mobile guests.

The idea for the new vehicles came about during the Corona pandemic in 2020 and the first test drives with the new trailers even took place with the football professionals from VfL Wolfsburg. The popularity of the tour is reflected in the stop points: the “wedding”, where the body, engine and chassis are brought together, as well as the press shop and the paint shop are particularly appreciated.

A look back: The history of the factory tour

The factory tour originally took place on foot before vehicles were used in the late 1990s. Since 2000, guests have been able to explore the production facilities in panoramic cable cars, an experience that has become more and more refined over the years. VW's “Guest Relations” team, consisting of 40 employees, ensures that the excursions always run smoothly and that visitors receive an unforgettable impression of the state-of-the-art automobile production.

VW's path in Wolfsburg shows that it always has a good knack for innovation while at the same time upholding the tradition of the automotive industry. The factory will continue to be a popular destination for holidaymakers and car enthusiasts who want to experience the fascination of automobile construction up close. For Volkswagen, producing vehicles is not just a job, but an impressive interplay of technology, art and craftsmanship - and it will remain that way in the future in one way or another.

The new trailers were manufactured by the regional company Metallbau Gerhard Gieseke from Gifhorn and are based on Volkswagen's modern ID. design. The total weight of a trailer is around six tonnes, which underlines the solidity and safety of the new trailers.

For all interested visitors, the motto is: Off to Wolfsburg to experience progress and tradition combined! Further information about the diverse offerings at the plant can be found at news38.de and also at vwforum.com.
