Husum Crab Days 2025: Celebrate the North Sea with taste and fun!
Now it's that time again: The 28th Husum Crab Days are just around the corner and are causing a lot of hustle and bustle in the maritime city at the weekend. From October 19th to 20th, 2025, the inland port and market square in Husum (Nordfriesland district) will be transformed into a true land of milk and honey for lovers of crab specialties. [NDR].
The focus is particularly on the crab puling championship and various cooking competitions, which attract both amateur cooks and professionals. The latter can demonstrate their craft and compete with the best in their profession. The Colorful Mile opens on Sunday at 11 a.m., and on Friday visitors can stroll through the stalls at the craft market and discover great handicrafts.
Crab prices and catch quotas
The prices of crab products have long been a topic of conversation. A shrimp roll now costs 8 euros, an increase of 50 cents compared to last year. The peeled crabs are stable at 19.90 euros per kilo, which shows in a year without fluctuations that the catch quotas and prices remain balanced. It should be noted, however, that producer prices per kilo of crabs in Schleswig-Holstein are around 4.85 euros - a sign of the difficulties that crab fishermen have to contend with. The natural predator, the whiting, poses a serious threat to crab stocks. The project “WE FISH.SH” attempts to represent the interests of crab fishing and associated sectors and to bring them closer to consumers.
It's no secret that up to 25,000 tons of crabs are caught in the North Sea every year, and almost 10,000 tons of them in Germany. With this in mind, one might think that something should be done about prices, but the challenges are significant. Fishermen and consumers have to prepare for the scissors and the fluctuating supply.
A colorful program for young and old
But let's get back to the crab days: In addition to the culinary highlights, there is also an exciting supporting program. Various events await visitors on Sunday - including the 10th Husum Crab Pulping Championship at 12 p.m., show cooking at 11 a.m. and the highlight at 3:45 p.m. with the Crocus Blossom Queen and the Lamb Queen. In the meantime, visitors can look forward to a Sunday shopping event supporting all the local traders from 12pm to 5pm.
If you would like to find out more about the city of Husum and its history, you can take part in a free city tour on the topics of “cattle market” and “women's paths” from 2.30 p.m. The meeting point is at the Husum Tourist Information.
Parking is available around the inland harbor and market square, and the “HusumBus” bus routes run as scheduled, so nothing stands in the way of the hustle and bustle.
