Construction site chaos in Kiel: Where there are now closures!
A lot is happening in Kiel when it comes to road construction and renovation measures. Today, June 15, 2025, there are numerous construction sites affecting both drivers and pedestrians. The city administration has published the current measures on its website and you should keep your eyes open as there is some important information about the construction sites that will take place over the coming months.
The old Levensau high bridge is currently completely closed until the middle of this month. Drivers will be redirected over the neighboring bridge on the B76. However, the release for Kiel Week is already firmly planned. In Eichenbergskamp, however, we have to be prepared for a complete closure until June 27, 2025, as two rainwater connection pipes are being repaired here. However, pedestrians can walk past, minimizing the restriction for this group.
More construction sites in the city
Hasseer Straße is also completely closed until June 27, 2025. The reason: renovation and expansion between house numbers 78 to 100. A bicycle route is being expanded on Flensburger Straße in Kiel-Wik, which will also lead to a complete closure until June 30th. This could be an improvement, especially for cyclists, but they will have to be patient until then.
In Kiel-Gaarden-Ost there is a one-sided closure of Preetzer Straße until the end of June 2025, as a branch of the ZIP day clinic is being built there between house numbers 4 and 6. Wörthstrasse will also be completely closed until July 4, 2025 in order to repair two dirty water connections. And that's not all - Eggerstedtstrasse/Wall in Kiel is also completely closed in the direction of Schuhmacherstrasse until July 31, 2025 due to facade work on a corner building.
Long-term projects
A significant construction site also awaits us on Sören Street in Kiel-Ellerbek: work will continue here until the beginning of August to lay new district heating pipes. The old Lübecker Chaussee even has a reduced bridge height until September 30, 2025. This measure is part of the renovation of the railway bridges and entails some cuts for road users. Currently there is only one lane available, regulated by traffic lights.
Another project in Kiel-Wik is the replacement of a medium-voltage system, which will also lead to a full closure until September 30, 2025. In Hassee, work on the sewers and the renovation of the road are expected to last until the end of November 2025. This could lead to ongoing restrictions for some residents and road users!
What's next?
The central construction site planning for 2025 also includes greening and the replacement of the bus stops at Kiel Central Station between April and June. From July 2025 things will really get down to business with the complete renovation of the Westring and the renewal of the road surface at Stresemannplatz. It is therefore advisable to always keep an eye on the latest information about the construction sites in order to avoid diversions and traffic jams.
