Kangaroo comedy and superheroes: Marc-Uwe Kling inspires Lübeck!

Marc-Uwe Kling, the inventor of the popular “Kangaroo” stories, spent a memorable evening in Lübeck on January 20, 2026. In the packed MuK concert hall, he greeted his audience with a casual “Well, hello” and immediately managed to lighten the mood with his humor. As the Lübecker Nachrichten reports, Kling realized that he had to do his own opening act these days - a twisty turn in the world of entertainment.

This evening, Kling presented his latest kangaroo stories, which humorously deal with everyday shared life and political contradictions. The kangaroo took on the role of narrator, which posed an unusual challenge for the author himself. In total he read four stories from his announced new volume “The Kangaroo Rebellion”, which is due to be published in March.

A look at “Normal and the Ticking Clock”

A main focus of the evening was the graphic novel “Normal and the Ticking Clock,” which was published in November 2025. This story revolves around the protagonist Normal, an ordinary person without superpowers who operates in a world full of heroes and villains. How rowohlt.de writes, Normal works at the emergency call center and is part of a squad of Zero Heroes who are equipped with sometimes ridiculous powers. The antagonist, the Normalizer, is determined to gain control of the ticking clock - a race against time.

With Jan Cronauer, who acted as co-writer, and Florian Biege, the illustrator, Kling ensured that the event was not just a reading, but a multimedia experience. During the live reading, comic strips were shown, accompanied by a handmade soundtrack. Biege thrilled the audience by making a drawing on stage based on suggestions from the audience. The creative sketch showed, among other things, a 56k dial-up modem and a “fax machine” under the motto “Fax the System!”

An event for all generations

The graphic novel “Normal and the Ticking Clock” is aimed at both adults and younger readers by humorously playing with superhero clichés while telling an exciting story. Kling proved that he can conquer not only the hearts of children, but also those of adults.

In addition, the Kangaroo worked with Kling to promote Di.day, a monthly event in Lübeck that supports the switch to alternative digital platforms. At events like these, viewers recognize that the interplay of humor and digitality is more than just a trend – it is an opportunity!

Overall, the evening was characterized by lively exchanges and lots of laughter. With their creative dedication, Marc-Uwe Kling and his colleagues showed that stories can connect and bring joy to every age group. An evening that will go down in the memories of Lübeck residents!
