VfB Oldenburg's regional league game against FC St. Pauli II was canceled today, and not without reason. How NWZonline reported that the unplayable pitch in the Edmund Plambeck Stadium in Norderstedt put a damper on the game. Continuous and heavy rain had turned the playing area into a muddy state, which was confirmed by the German Weather Service. According to the forecast, it is not possible to predict when this game can be rescheduled.
VfB Oldenburg could have extended their lead in the table with a win, especially since their pursuers SV Meppen had to accept an unexpected 3:5 against another competitor. This could have given the Oldenburgers a comfortable lead, but the weather soon thwarted their plans.
Storms and their consequences
The current weather is sounding the alarm throughout the northern region. In the last few weeks there have been several game cancellations due to adverse conditions. In a report by Sports show It is reported that the Regionalliga Nordost is suffering from high pressure. Here, among many other teams, FSV Zwickau and Chemnitzer FC have already been hit by frosty conditions, which led to immediate cancellations. The lawn heating often remains out of operation due to cost reasons, which doesn't exactly improve the situation.
It remains to be hoped for Oldenburg that the next games will be more stable and that VFB will show a good hand. The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, October 11th against Kickers Emden.
