St. Pauli celebrates a spectacular 3:3 against Dortmund in the Millerntor!

On August 23, 2025, the Millerntorstadion in Hamburg was the scene of a spectacular Bundesliga game in which FC St. Pauli achieved a brilliant 3-3 draw against Borussia Dortmund. After a 3-1 deficit, the Kiezkickers equalized in the final phase and ensured a successful start to the season.

The guests from Dortmund, under the command of coach Niko Kovac, initially had the upper hand. Serhou Guirassy opened the scoring in the 27th minute after a clever assist from Marcel Sabitzer. But St. Pauli showed themselves undaunted and quickly equalized through Andreas Hountondji. The host's offensive showed promise after missing a few chances in the early stages.

A drama in the second half

After the half-time break, Dortmund seemed to regain control when Waldemar Anton made it 2-1 in the 45th minute and Julian Brandt increased it to 3-1 just a few minutes later. But the game took a dramatic turn: in the 39th minute, Filippo Mane was sent off, which gave the St. Paulians the opportunity to exploit their advantage.

That benefited the team. Danel Sinani safely converted a penalty in the 70th minute after Nikola Vasilj had previously parried Guirassy's penalty. With two late goals, one from Eric Smith in the 89th minute, FC St. Pauli secured a point in a game that will go down in history as a true spectacle. Vasilj showed strong support in goal on several occasions and was crucial for the eventual comeback.

A draw full of emotions

The match ended 3-3, a point split that both teams thoroughly deserved. Coach Kovac emphasized after the game that St. Pauli had honestly earned the point and the fans in the stadium could look forward to an exciting game. The atmosphere in the Millerntorstadion, surrounded by the rides of the Hamburg Cathedral, contributed to the special atmosphere.

In addition to the goals, the refereeing decisions and intense play on both sides led to a number of yellow cards. For example, Eric Smith and Adam Dzwigala from St. Pauli and Ramy Bensebaini and Marcel Sabitzer from Dortmund each received a warning.

With this draw, St. Pauli is sending a strong signal in what is still a young season. Next Sunday the team has the opportunity to carry on this momentum and collect more points, while Borussia Dortmund must concentrate on fixing their defensive problems.

In another game on the same weekend, Bayern Munich swept Rasenballsport Leipzig 6-0, which shows that the other teams in the league are also making a splash right at the start of the season.
