Beach chair prices are exploding: Where does the vacation become more expensive?
A family trip to the coasts of the North and Baltic Seas can be more expensive than many people think. A current study by Traumhausablosung shows how much the prices for beach chairs and tourist taxes vary. It turns out that the more cost-effective option for a day at the beach is not always the Baltic Sea, but in many cases the North Sea is actually cheaper. Mercury reports that the average cost of beach chairs on the Baltic Sea is 14.03 euros per day, while the same basket on the North Sea only costs 12.17 euros.
The respective prices vary considerably depending on the location. For beach visitors who want to avoid the most expensive beach chair locations, it is good to know that Rügen (Glowe/Binz) is at the top with 18 euros and Sylt (Morsum and Tinnum/Westerland) with 17 and 16-16.50 euros respectively. On the other hand, the cheapest offers can be found in Pellworm (Westerdeichstrich) for only 7 euros, Baltrum/Büsumer Deichhausen for 9 euros and Dornum/Nordstrand for 10 euros.
Tourist taxes in comparison
In addition to the rent for beach chairs, the tourist taxes also play a crucial role when planning the costs for a day at the beach. A look at the numbers shows that the tourist taxes on the North Sea are on average 21% more expensive than on the Baltic Sea. The highest tourist taxes can be found on Spiekeroog at 5.50 euros per person per day, followed by Wangerooge and Norderney at 4.90 euros. In contrast, the cheapest tourist taxes can be found in Altefähr on Rügen at just 1.20 euros. NDR adds that day guests in St. Peter-Ording have to pay between 3.00 and 4.00 euros.
The spa taxes are important for financing local infrastructure such as emergency services, cleaning, sanitary facilities and events. However, in some places, such as Großenbrode, the spa tax is not enough to cover the costs, which is why the fee was increased from 3 to 3.50 euros.
Price developments and future prospects
A trend is clearly visible: the prices for beach chairs and tourist taxes are rising in many regions. The figures show that the demands on services and maintenance are increasing and communities are increasingly dependent on the income. This also seems to apply to the increased parking fees in holiday resorts, which have often also increased, such as in Sankt Peter-Ording, where an additional entrance fee of 6.50 euros is charged for certain sections of the beach. It remains to be seen whether the trend will continue. Frustration among holidaymakers is growing, especially when additional taxes are announced, as in Büsum and St. Peter-Ording. Baltic Sea vacation online informs you that the spa tax is usually calculated upon arrival and that many places have different regulations.
For a family with two adults and two children, a day at the beach can easily cost over 20 euros - and that's without parking or catering costs. When planning your next beach days, it is even more important to keep costs in mind and choose the best options.
