Trial against Syrian brothers: knife attack and weapon threat in Pasewalk!
A trial against two brothers from Syria began in Neubrandenburg on November 24, 2025. The two men, 36 and 25 years old, have to answer for a dramatic knife attack in Pasewalk. They are charged with attempted murder and bodily harm, among other things Northern Courier reported.
The incidents occurred on August 15, 2025, when the brothers threatened a 40-year-old man with a pistol in his apartment. The main defendant, the 36-year-old, then stabbed the victim with a knife towards his neck and upper body, injuring his arm. However, the injured party was able to escape, which probably saved his life. During the arrest, the brothers resisted the police, which resulted in minor injuries to one of the accused, including through the use of pepper spray.
Unclear weapon situation
The brothers were caught immediately at the crime scene. The question of what caliber of weapon they used to threaten and whether it was a live or blank weapon remains particularly explosive, as in a report by star mentioned. During the attack, the main defendant also had another accusation on his hands, namely resisting law enforcement officers. The younger brother only faces threats and resistance to the police.
The 36-year-old has been in custody since October 2024 due to another case. The court is planning several days of hearings and a verdict is expected in December. Such a violent confrontation casts a harsh light on the current situation and sense of security in the region.
Violent crime in Germany
Although violent crimes account for less than 4% of all crimes recorded by the police in Germany, their impact on feelings of security is enormous. Current statistics show that around 217,000 violent crimes were recorded in 2024, the highest number since 2007. This increasing trend can possibly be explained by economic uncertainties and social pressures that also affect migrants, as stated in a report by Statista is explained. Particularly during the Corona pandemic, an increase in acts of violence was observed, which agitated people and led to increased awareness of the problem.
The number of young violent criminals has increased in recent years, a trend that is certainly cause for concern. The constant psychological stress caused by the pandemic is considered as a further influencing factor. A survey from May 2024 showed that 94% of Germans view violence against people in politics and the police as a serious problem.
The upcoming negotiations in Neubrandenburg will therefore be of great interest not only for the brothers concerned, but also for many citizens. The question of how such violent escalations can be avoided in the future remains unresolved even after this process.
