Peace movement in Neubrandenburg: Actions planned for September!

A lot is happening in Neubrandenburg when it comes to the topic of peace. On September 6th, the journalist and peace activist Christiane Reymann will come to the four-gate city. On the occasion of Anti-War Day, which was established in 1957, the Neubrandenburg Peace Alliance is holding a rally on the market square that begins at 3 p.m. The event commemorates the German Wehrmacht's attack on Poland in 1939, which initiated the Second World War. The event will be accompanied by music by El Aleman, and after the rally there will be an opportunity for discussion with Reymann. Nordkurier reports that the peace issue will be the focus in the coming weeks.

But that's not all. On September 21st, the International Day of Peace, the peace alliance will set another example. At 2 p.m. an event promoting diplomacy and international understanding will take place on the Neubrandenburg market square. Neubrandenburg is a member of the global “Mayors for Peace” alliance and maintains partnerships with cities such as Petrozavodsk in Russia and Nazareth in Israel. These partnerships are intended to demonstrate the importance of peaceful relationships and how effective diplomacy can be in an international context. Strelitzius emphasizes that the organizers have sent a letter to politicians inviting them to take part in the action on September 21st. This shows the broad helping approach that the peace alliance is taking.

Peace-promoting measures and international responsibility

In the current situation, the need for peace and security is more urgent than ever. According to the DGB, the highest number of armed conflicts since 1945 is expected in 2025, resulting in an alarming number of victims. The DGB reporting shows that many children come from conflict regions, which makes the need for peace initiatives all the more clear. The major challenges associated with military aggression and superpower competitive tactics must be urgently addressed.

These developments are a call to politicians, not only in Neubrandenburg but also at the international level, to give priority to diplomatic resolution of conflicts. The DGB calls for defense capabilities to be strengthened, but this must not come at the expense of social concerns. Germany must take on an independent role as a peacemaking power and work for an international order that is based on the basic principles of the UN Charter.

The initiative of the Neubrandenburg Peace Alliance is all the more a strong signal to the world. With the planned events they show that commitment to peace and international understanding cannot be postponed. All interested parties are invited to take part and set an example for peace through discussion and active participation.
