New competence center for all-day care started in MV!

A lot is happening in the educational landscape in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania! N TV reports that from August 1, 2026, a new legal entitlement to all-day care for primary school students will apply. This exciting project aims to close the gap in care after daycare and ensure that children are well looked after while their parents work.

Education Minister Simone Oldenburg from the Left announced the founding of the new competence center “Educational Community After-school Care and Elementary School”. The competence center is managed by the democracy and education association RAA in Waren/Müritz. It will be a central contact point for jointly shaping the educational mission of the after-school care center and the primary school.

Improving transitions

Another step in the right direction is the planned expansion of language support. The minister emphasizes that children's language skills urgently need to be strengthened. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, around 114,000 children currently attend one of the 1,142 daycare centers or receive care in day care. The country has achieved a top position in Germany with a care rate of 60.3% of children under three and 94.6% of children aged three to six.

Thanks to the new regulations, the transition from daycare to primary school should also be improved. A uniform master data sheet will be introduced in order to pass on important information about the children's learning and development status directly to the schools.
