Football tournament in Lübz: Fair play and team spirit win over goals!

The Fairplay Soccer Tour, one of the largest sports education projects in Germany, has celebrated its comeback at the high school in Lübz after eight years. Around 50 teams, including creative names such as “Lattenkramper Deluxe”, “Benchwarmer” and “The Cucumber Troupe”, took part in this special event yesterday. Right from the start, the atmosphere was characterized by enthusiasm and fair cooperation.

In three age groups, which competed separately by gender, as well as a separate over-18 class, the participants played on 13 x 15 meter fields without a goalkeeper. The focus was not just on scoring goals, but rather on promoting responsibility and treating each other with respect. Northern Courier reports that the teams were even able to report irregularities themselves, which helped ensure that fewer points were deducted and the idea of fair play came to the fore.

A place of meeting

Project manager Markus Gottschalk emphasized how important the exchange is after the games: “We rely on dialogue to strengthen cooperation.” Mayor Astrid Becker and Björn Mauch, a board member of the East German savings banks, also opened the tournament at 9 a.m. and were enthusiastic about the high number of participants. A total of around 200 girls and boys from the host school and regional schools took part.

The Fairplay Soccer Tour has been around for a quarter of a century and attracts participants of all ages. The goal is clear: use the potential of sport to promote participation and equality. Soccer tour emphasizes that the project fights against discrimination and exclusion, regardless of whether it is based on skin color, origin or gender.

On the way to the national final

In this tournament, the best teams have the chance to qualify for the national final at Werbellinsee, which will take place at the end of July. At least 300 participating teams from all over Germany are expected there. This option not only motivates players, but also promotes social cohesion and fair play-related behavior.

The framework for such an important project becomes visible not only in sports practice, but also in educational work. According to an article in Pedagogy specialist portal Sport plays an important role in the area of social responsibility, and the concept of the Fairplay Soccer Tour is a flagship project that pursues both sporting and social goals.

While the little ones and the young at heart are fighting for the ball on the field, a completely different game is happening behind them. The Fairplay Soccer Tour shows that it's not just goals that count in sport, but also the path to get there and the values that go with it.
