Parchim celebrates: Martini market delights with spectacle and tradition!
This year's Martini market in Parchim opened its doors on Friday with a colorful program and a celebratory opening. City President Ilka Rohr and Mayor Dirk Flörke gave the official starting signal to the traditional festival, which has taken place every year since 1968 on the festival site on Bergstrasse. The good atmosphere was underlined by a performance by the SV “Unit 46” Parchim marching band.
The weather was at its best at the opening - dry and fresh, which only underlined the festive atmosphere. For Saturday, however, the weather forecast is less friendly: light rain showers are expected. There is a slight chance of precipitation at 15 percent on Sunday, while Monday will remain dry during the day, but light, persistent rain is expected in the evening. For market visitors, the temperatures are between 5 and 16 degrees Celsius and therefore offer optimal conditions for an autumn excursion.
Market events and program
The Martinimarkt festivities start on Saturday at 2 p.m. and don't end until midnight. On Sunday the stall operators open at 11 a.m., while on Monday the market starts at 2 p.m. and closes at 9 p.m. The highlight of the market is the traditional fireworks display, which concludes on Monday evening at 8 p.m. A look at the market spectrum reveals: Over 70,000 visitors are expected, who can discover a wide range of offerings on around 19,000 square meters.
However, there is an important change this year: the dealer market on Sunday will not take place. This was decided by the external market organizer for economic reasons, following a cancellation the previous year. This decision caused mixed reactions among the local population, as many were hoping for a diverse range of shopping options.
Martini market, a visitor magnet
Despite the cancellation of the dealer market, the Martinimarkt remains a popular attraction for the region. The anticipation of the four great days is palpable, and it is the combination of traditional market, regional products and a colorful supporting program that makes the market a highlight in the city's annual cultural calendar. Whether you want to take a leisurely stroll, try the culinary delicacies or simply enjoy the atmosphere – there is something for everyone.
With this in mind, we wish all visitors a lot of fun and wonderful times at this year's Martinimarkt, and perhaps a little luck that the weather cooperates!
