Silo grabber stolen from Boizenburg: Police ask for witnesses!
In Boizenburg, in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district, a farm has been the target of a brazen break-in in the last few days. Unknown perpetrators managed to steal a silo grabber worth around 1,000 euros. This device, which is mounted on a front loader and is used to remove silage from a silo, disappeared from the site in Bengerstorfer Weg between Tuesday afternoon and Thursday evening. The police have started an investigation and are asking possible witnesses to call 038867 6060, especially if they have noticed any suspicious people or vehicles during the period mentioned. NDR reports that thefts from the agricultural sector have increased sharply recently.
The trend is alarming: According to the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Criminal Police Office, there has already been an increase in particularly serious theft crimes in the agricultural sector in 2025. By May 4th, 17 crimes had been reported, with thieves primarily targeting crop protection products and seeds. “Compared to the previous year, this means a drastic increase of only four registered crimes,” reports Presseportal. The total damage this year alone amounts to around 775,000 euros.
Thefts are increasing
The increase in thefts in agriculture not only affects the businesses affected, but also raises questions about security in rural areas. The perpetrators appear to be specifically targeting valuable equipment, such as GPS devices in tractors or harvesters. Between January 1st and September 14th, 2025, 23 offenses were registered nationwide, causing a total of around 547,000 euros in damage. Nordkurier reports that the aggressiveness and number of such acts is increasing alarmingly.
To prevent such incidents, the LKA recommends various measures to improve security, including complete fencing of company premises and the installation of surveillance systems. A good knack for prevention could serve as an effective weapon against bold burglars.
