Shocking accident near Behren-Lübchin: 23-year-old hits a tree!
A serious traffic accident occurred on Wednesday evening, November 27th, 2025, around 10 p.m., on the L23 between Behren-Lübchin in the Rostock district and the A20. A 23-year-old driver was on his way to the motorway from the direction of Gnoien when his vehicle suddenly veered off the road to the left and crashed into a tree. It then hurled itself into the right-hand ditch.
The driver was trapped in the car and had to be freed by the fire department. Fortunately, the rescue helicopter was able to take the seriously injured young man to the Greifswald Clinic. According to police, the driver is now out of danger, which is a great relief for his family and everyone involved.
The emergency services in alarm mode
The fire brigade was deployed with four volunteers and a total of 36 comrades to rescue the injured person from the unfortunate situation. The road had to be completely closed for around two hours to record the accident and the subsequent clean-up work. The material damage is estimated at around 20,000 euros.
The causes of the accident are still unclear and the police are investigating. Accidents like this show the dangers of road traffic and are not only of local importance, but also shed light on the nationwide traffic accident situation.
Growing number of accidents in road traffic
In 2024, Germany recorded around 2.5 million road traffic accidents, which represents a decrease compared to the previous year. Nevertheless, the number of accidents resulting in property damage remains high. Personal injuries remain at levels the country has not seen since the 1950s. The aim is to have no more traffic deaths by 2050 as part of “Vision Zero”, which is what the EU transport ministers are striving for. In Germany, the number of traffic deaths was reduced to 2,770 in 2024 - an impressive but not always easy path. [Destatis reports].
Insights into the main causes of accidents show that factors such as insufficient distance, improper speed and driving under the influence of alcohol play a significant role. In 2024, 40% of personal injury accidents were caused by alcohol and 17,776 people were injured, showing that education and prevention are still necessary.
The increasing number of e-bikes and e-scooters also brings with it new challenges, as the number of injuries in these groups is increasing. This is evident from the fact that 26,057 e-bike riders were injured or killed last year. The current statistics make it clear how important it is to continuously improve road safety and take the right measures. [Statista discussed].
These events and circumstances not only highlight the explosiveness of the topic. They are also an incentive for all of us to promote awareness of safe driving on the roads. The hopefully soon better infrastructure and technologies such as autonomous vehicles could help to further reduce the numbers and ultimately protect the lives of many people.
So these days it remains important to remember that there is always risk on the roads and that we all have responsibility - both for ourselves and for those around us.
