Fascination Israel: Photo exhibition Israel Insight” in Schwerin Castle!
A remarkable photo exhibition entitled “Israel Insight” will open in Schwerin Castle on Wednesday, October 8th. Again Northern Courier reports, the exhibition shows around 40 photographs, some of which are audio-visual, and document the everyday life of Jewish Israelis, Muslims and Christians in Israel.
The pictures come from Max-Stefan Koslik, a former deputy editor-in-chief of the Schweriner Volkszeitung, who lived for three months in the Dormition Abbey on Mount Zion in Jerusalem. The exhibition was originally scheduled to take place at the Ministry of Finance in June, but was postponed for security reasons. Thanks to the CDU in the state parliament, which offered rooms, the presentation will now take place in the castle museum. Finance Minister Heiko Geue (SPD) emphasizes the importance of the exhibition for Jews in Germany, while State Parliament President Birgit Hesse supports the presentation.
Opening and party politics
Speeches by, among others, Carl Kreßmann, the national spokesman for the German-Israeli Society, have been announced for the opening on October 8th. After the opening, the exhibition will be accessible free of charge until November 5th, daily from 5 p.m.
This event will take place in a particularly sensitive context. Just one day earlier, on Saturday, October 7th, the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas attacked Israel. According to the Federal Agency for Civic Education An estimated 1,000 fighters entered Israeli territory, accompanied by massive rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip. The attacks targeted, among other things, villages, kibbutzim and a music festival and left over 1,300 dead. At least 199 people were also kidnapped, including several with German and Israeli citizenship. Israel responded with airstrikes and declared war, while rocket fire from Gaza continued.
Interreligious dialogue and cohesion
In view of the exhibition and current events, interreligious dialogue is particularly important. The IRG Baden and Jewish communities promote exchange and respect for other traditions and beliefs. This is a central pillar in creating good coexistence in society. Groups like “Abraham’s Daughters” are committed to strengthening exchanges between Jewish, Christian and Muslim women.
In light of recent events, the exhibition is more than just a collection of photographs, but a symbol of dialogue and understanding between different cultures and religions. The hope for peace and harmonious coexistence among all people is strengthened by such initiatives.
