Chair parade in Wismar: Art meets social integration and sustainability!

The KaSo Association's fourteenth chair parade took place today in the picturesque old town of Wismar. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors on ABC Street were able to admire and purchase the artfully restored pieces of furniture. A total of over 300 chairs, which were lovingly restored, painted and reupholstered by members of the association over the course of the year, passed into new hands. Loud NDR, income of around 5,800 euros was achieved, which represents a decrease compared to the previous year (8,200 euros). Karin Auerbach, chairwoman of the KaSo association, explained that this was primarily due to the buyers' lower financial resources.

But the chair parade is not just about selling furniture. With this event, the KaSo Association has dedicated itself to the goal of promoting social integration and supporting art and creativity. In addition to the chairs, tables, cupboards and other small furniture were also offered, which also found a new owner. Visitors were able to experience the creative work of the restorers up close and thus contribute a small part to a large social project. Regardless of the income, the proceeds represent an important recognition for the committed employees.

A celebration of social integration

The chair parade has long since developed into a popular meeting place in Wismar, attracting not only locals but also numerous visitors from the surrounding area. The restoration process of the chairs not only offers participants the opportunity to learn craft skills, but also to experience structure and social participation in their everyday lives. A total of 480 chairs were processed over the course of the year, which proves how important such projects are for people from socially marginalized groups who often have no chance on the primary job market.

At the same time, District Administrator Schomann emphasizes that such initiatives are of great importance in times when savings are necessary in the areas of youth and social affairs. His comment shows how highly valued this type of project is in the community. The chair parade is also supported by the city of Wismar and the district, which demonstrates the exemplary cooperation between art and social integration.

Sustainability and future

The future of the chair parade is secured because the KaSo association plans to continue this tradition. The public's great interest in the furniture on offer shows that such cultural events not only promote the social and economic development of the community, but also create a strong sense of community. The remaining chairs and furniture will be sold at the KaSo Association in the coming weeks, so everyone has the opportunity to purchase a piece of this unique project.
