Western Pomerania-Greifswald in a building frenzy: millions for schools and rescue stations!

A lot is happening in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district when it comes to construction. New projects are literally sprouting up and the region is in a spirit of optimism. What are the big plans being pursued here? A look at the upcoming construction projects shows where investments are being made and what opportunities there are.

A central project is the Danger Abatement Center in Greifswald. With a total of around 33.6 million euros, the center will play an important role in disaster protection. All blue light forces such as the rescue service center and the integrated control center are to be bundled here. According to District Administrator Michael Sack (CDU), the foundation stone will be laid in October 2025 and completion is planned for 2027. The center will be essential not only for everyday life, but especially in crisis situations.

Schools and educational infrastructure

But investments are not only made in the area of security. Several exciting projects are being planned in the school sector. The new school campus in Loitz will be realized with a budget of approximately 55.4 million euros and offers space for around 1,800 students and 100 teachers. The four-story complex, which also has specialist rooms and a sports hall, is expected to be completed in the coming years.

Another interesting development is the automotive training workshop at RBB Wolgast-Torgelow, which is funded with two million euros. The focus here is on modern forms of training, particularly in the promising areas of hybrid and electric mobility.

Investments in rescue infrastructure

The rescue infrastructure also receives significant funding. A new rescue station is being built in Hintersee, which is estimated to cost around 1.5 million euros and should be completed next year. Other locations in Murchin, Albinshof, Trassenheide, Greifswald and Ueckermünde will also be modernized or rebuilt.

An additional focus is on the planned fire department technical headquarters in Gützkow, which with around 41 million euros is expected. This headquarters will be crucial for the maintenance and testing of fire department technology as well as acting as a training center for volunteer fire departments.

Challenges in the education sector

Nevertheless, municipalities across Germany are facing major challenges. According to Architekturblatt, the investment backlog in the school sector will rise to a record high 54.8 billion euros by the end of 2024. This shows that the need for modern educational institutions is enormous and that an important step in the right direction is being taken in Western Pomerania-Greifswald with the new investments in school infrastructure.

In summary, it can be said that the Vorpommern-Greifswald region is well positioned for the coming years. Despite a budget deficit, the responsible politicians are determined to raise the standard of infrastructure and at the same time support local companies in construction projects. It remains exciting to see how the projects develop and what positive effects they bring with them.
