The Disney Adventure: The largest cruise ship in the Baltic Sea starts!
A true shipping masterpiece was completed in Wismar. The Disney Adventure, the largest cruise ship ever built in Germany, recently reached its important milestone. With impressive dimensions of 342 meters long, 46.4 meters wide and over 70 meters high, the Disney Adventure is a true giant among cruise ships. It has space for around 6,000 passengers and 2,500 crew members. Nordkurier reports that the ship was taken over by Disney after the original client went bankrupt. The half-finished project was successfully completed under the responsibility of Meyer Werft in Wismar.
The undocking of the Disney Adventure took place in April 2025 and it was a big moment for the shipyard and the region. This magnificent ship will sail under the Bahamas flag and has its roots in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. On board, travelers can expect over 20 restaurants and bars as well as seven Disney-themed worlds. For adventure seekers, Disney Adventure also offers the longest roller coaster at sea, which will provide plenty of unforgettable rides. The ship is also the first on the Disney Cruise Line to run on methanol, making it a more environmentally friendly option.
Setting new standards
The Disney Adventure's journey begins in December 2025 in Singapore, where it is planning its first maiden voyage. These trips are designed to provide guests with new entertainment without stopping at Havens. With a focus on onboard life and entertainment, the ship particularly attracts families, Disney fans and cruise newcomers.
In terms of technical equipment, the Disney Adventure is in the top league: it offers around 2,350 cabins and suites. Passengers can enjoy the various culinary offerings in the Rotational Dining concept. Exclusive lounges and restaurants for adults also provide a pleasant change. Prices for four nights start at around 1,150 euros per person, while luxury cabins can even cost up to 5,000 euros, depending on the equipment. Cruise Ahoi offers an overview of booking options and prices.
Environmental awareness in cruise ship construction
The decision to operate the Disney Adventure with methanol comes at a time when environmentally friendly solutions are becoming increasingly important. According to Tagesschau, more and more cruise operators are taking steps to reduce their environmental impact. While some providers still rely on fossil fuels, brands such as TUI Cruises and now Disney are relying on innovative techniques to reduce CO2 emissions in order to meet the challenges of the climate crisis. Nevertheless, there is a lot to do in the industry, as many ships only want to become climate neutral in the coming decades.
A look at the cruise industry shows that despite the challenges, a positive recovery is taking place after the pandemic. With an expected increase of 15 percent in 2024 and the opening of new routes and ships such as Disney Adventure, travelers can look forward to exciting opportunities in the cruise world.
