MidsummerSail 2025: Record race from Wismar to Sweden started!
An exciting adventure lies ahead because the... MidsummerSail, the legendary non-stop offshore race from Wismar to Sweden, celebrates its tenth anniversary on June 21, 2025. The starting shot goes off at 1:00 p.m. in the picturesque Bay of Wismar. With 86 participating boats from five nations, this regatta set a record that reflects the sailing euphoria in the region.
This race was launched in 2016 and is now one of the most challenging offshore regattas in the Baltic Sea. The route stretches over 900 nautical miles (approx. 1670 km) to the northern Swedish port of Töre, the northernmost point of the Baltic Sea. In fact, the participants not only experience an exciting race, but also the breathtaking backdrop of the midnight sun, which further enchants the adventure.
A unique event for everyone
A wide variety of boat types are involved in the MidsummerSail - from high-tech racers to traditional family boats. The diversity of participants is not only exciting for the competitors themselves, but also promotes international connections between the countries bordering the Baltic Sea. The event offers an excellent opportunity to make international friends and strengthen the sailing community.
The start takes place with a special bang: the cannon of the Hanseatic Cog Wissemara gives the signal for the start of the race. The regatta is divided into four starting groups, which set out to sea at the same time. The participants are required to face the challenges of the high seas, which are often unpredictable and treacherous.
Competition duration and prizes
The duration of the competition extends until July 5, 2025, 1:00 p.m., when the time limit for the return of the boats expires. Each team fights not only for victory, but also for various prizes. The honors include, among other things, two trophies for the first monohull and multihull crew, each worth 1000 euros. There are also prizes for the smallest crew and the smallest boat that successfully completes the race.
But the MidsummerSail is not just a competition. It also presents the fascination of regatta sailing, a sport that is characterized by different formats. The competition itself is very varied - from short races to challenges lasting months. Regardless of the boat class, the thrill and atmosphere on the water is unmistakable at every event, as is the case at the many major regattas in Germany and Scandinavia that regularly attract sailors from all over the world, such as the Kiel Week or the Baltic Match Race, to name just a few.
So MidsummerSail 2025 is an exciting event that not only tests the skills of sailors, but also celebrates the community spirit and the joy of sailing. Be there when it says: Cast off!
