20 years of 'Beastly Good': Wolgast's aquarium pioneer is celebrating big!”

The “Tierisch gut” store in Wolgast is celebrating its 20th anniversary on September 20th. Matthias and Karina Koch founded the company in 2005 in the 90 square meter start-up center. Since then, the store has expanded to an impressive 800 square meters after moving into a former car dealership in 2016. The latest expansion in 2022 with a 400 square meter hall has enriched the business with an additional 250,000 euros in investment.

“Tierisch gut” is the only provider of freshwater aquariums in the region and has therefore developed into an important contact point for aquarium lovers. In addition to a wide range of aquariums and accessories, the store also offers fishing accessories, which are in high demand in the region. Live natural bait, such as dew worms, are particularly popular. Over 100 boxes are sold here every week.

Colorful anniversary celebrations

The anniversary celebration on September 20th will feature a colorful family program from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition to a bouncy castle for the little ones, face painting is also offered. Regional producers present their products and there is a raffle as well as food and drinks. The celebration not only offers a look at the past 20 years, but also at the close collaboration with regional producers.

The continued popularity of the aquarium market is also reflected in the global statistics: According to Fortune Business Insights, the market is estimated at USD 3.60 billion in 2023, with a forecast of USD 6.21 billion by 2032. Interest in aquariums increased particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic, as many people increased their leisure time.

A look at the future of aquarium keeping

The growing interest in aquariums and the trend towards hobby farming are contributing to more and more customers keeping their own animals, including chickens and ducks. Sales of pet food, particularly fodder carrots, dog food and chicken feed, are showing an increase. Nevertheless, the competition in Wolgast should not be underestimated. Despite new providers, “Tierisch gut” has not suffered any significant losses.

With over eight employees, the shop serves a wide range of customers stretching from Wolgast to Neubrandenburg. It is noteworthy that the business owners always have a good knack of meeting the needs of their customers. This is reflected not only in the product selection, but also in the close ties to the regional economy.

As AS-Aquaristik also shows, the offering in the aquarium sector has grown enormously and now includes over 9,000 items. Tierisch gut relies on proven products from manufacturers such as Juwel, Aquatlantis and Eheim, while up-and-coming brands also find their place. The combination of exceptional customer service and a wide range offers customers the opportunity to get everything from a single source.

“Tierisch gut” has established itself not only as a center for aquarium hobby, but also as a meeting place for animal lovers who live and share their passion together.
