Wolgast presents the new town hall: completion in autumn 2023!

A lot is happening in Wolgast: The renovation of the meeting center on Hufelandstrasse is in full swing. It is important to the city administration to meet the needs of citizens for a larger event location. Wolgast residents will soon be able to have a good time while taking part in concerts, theater performances or festive events. Incidentally, the construction work is scheduled to be completed in autumn 2023 Baltic Sea newspaper reported.

Mayor Martin Schröter is pleased with the progress and emphasizes that the center is responding to the wishes of the population. The new town hall will not only have a large hall with 304 seats, but also a smaller salon for up to 50 people. The latter is used by Wolgaster Wohnungswirtschafts GmbH (Wowi) for tenant meetings. The new premises will be barrier-free, which is an additional advantage for all visitors, as the city of Wolgast website informs.

Multifunctionality in focus

The meeting center should offer a variety of possible uses: from balls and dance evenings to book readings and city council meetings, everything is possible. The city itself will use the center, but private organizers can also rent space. To increase comfort, the installation of new sanitary facilities, ventilation systems and the latest technology for lighting and sound are in full swing, as stated on the official website Wolgast.de can be read.

The conversion is a real effort: demolition and masonry work has already been completed, roof renovation and installation of a large ventilation system are in their final stages. The electrical installation should also be completed by mid-September 2023. Then we continue with painting work and installing the stage equipment. The entire project is estimated to cost 950,000 euros, much of which will be financed with a special needs allocation of 691,095 euros from Schwerin, which was made available to recognize the reception of refugees in Wolgast.

Outlook for the inauguration

There is a lot of anticipation for the official opening of the meeting center. This is planned for October 4, 2025. The people of Wolgast have always heard the desire for a larger hall and the renovation takes this request into account. Those responsible are optimistic that everything is going according to plan after a meeting with specialist engineers took place on February 21, 2025 to discuss technical details. Although existing construction poses challenges, the city and the architects are confident.
