Theater highlights 2025/26: Excitement, drama and music in East Frisia!

The Lower Saxony-Nord State Theater is bringing a breath of fresh air to East Frisia. For the 2025/26 season, the theater makers not only have drama in store, but also musical fireworks and exciting thrills. On September 3, 2025, the curtain will be raised in Aurich with the musical “Kein Pardon”, based on the film of the same name by Hape Kerkeling. The ensemble brings a varied program with a total of 13 venues, with the Wilhelmshaven City Theater serving as the stage for all rehearsals. In Leer, the only place that offers the entire evening program, there are 748 seats in the Theater an der Blinke.

The audience response is promising: 360 subscriptions were recently sold. While the demand for individual sales varies from piece to piece, Esens usually books six pieces from the entire program, with the Theaterfreunde Esens support group surveying the audience when selecting the piece.

Diverse pieces for the audience

The season is characterized by an interesting mix of pieces. Whether “State of the Union” by Nick Hornby or the exciting production of “Moby Dick” – there is something for every taste. The program is complemented by the contemporary piece “Seven Ways to Kill Kylie Jenner” by Jasmine Lee-Jones and the thoughtful “Night, Mother”, which deals with suicide and communication between mother and daughter. Classics such as Kleist's “The Broken Pitcher” or “Mephisto” by Klaus Mann complete the offer, which also includes a touch of humor with “Ewig Jung”.

But not only dramatic works are on the program. Agatha Christie's "Death on the Nile" promises high crime suspense, while the surreal comedy "Everything Must Shine" could make you think. The theater landscape has not remained untouched by the latest developments: the 58th volume of theater statistics documents that the number of events has increased by 15 percent compared to the previous year. There was also a 64 percent increase in theater attendance, which shows that people are increasingly enjoying the live experience again.

Challenges and opportunities

The challenges are still noticeable. The uncertainties caused by the energy crisis and the fear of future stage closures due to political decisions are issues that cannot be dismissed out of hand. But the positive trend is encouraging: 22.4 million visits to theaters and orchestras in the last season are a signal that the stages can continue to achieve important things in society.

For all theater fans and readers interested in culture, it remains to be seen how the new season in East Frisia will develop. The program of the Landesbühne Niedersachsen-Nord, which is planning a promising start with “Kein Pardon”, gives hope that the theater will retain a permanent place in the heart of the region.
