Braunschweig's Bottega Ceccarelli: Germany's pizza pride in 48th place!

The city of Braunschweig is once again in the spotlight of the culinary world. With the “Bottega Ceccarelli”, a restaurant has secured a place in the coveted list of the best pizzerias outside of Italy. At number 48, the restaurant made detours in the ranking of the renowned Internet portal “50 Top Pizza”. news38.de reported. The award in front of an international audience (and the thrill of having only three other German pizzerias in this list, all of which come from Bavaria) once again underlines the high quality of Braunschweig's gastronomy.

Christian Daniel Ceccarelli, the proud owner of the “Bottega Ceccarelli”, shared his joy about the placement on Instagram. “Being recognized in such a high-profile group gives us a huge boost,” said Ceccarelli. At the top of the list is the restaurant “Napoli on the Road” from London, which took first place. This pizzeria is run by Michele Pascarella, who is now considered the best pizza maker in Europe and has achieved significant success with it.

A bit of history about Bottega Ceccarelli

The history of Ceccarelli is as exciting as its pizzerias. Born in Braunschweig, he grew up in Italy, where his parents opened a restaurant near Naples in the 80s. As a child he helped in the family business and quickly found his passion for gastronomy. After finishing school, he returned to Braunschweig in the late 1990s and took over the Leibnizhaus in Wolfenbüttel with his mother in 2005, where they worked for three years before he opened an Italian delicatessen in Braunschweig in 2016. Then in April 2020, he turned his attention to the pizza world and turned the business into a pizzeria.

The Bottega Ceccarelli not only offers traditional pizza Napoletana, but also has a modern retro style with exposed brickwork and a special copper pizza oven. The oven, which reaches temperatures of up to 485 degrees Celsius, allows the pizzas to be baked in an unbeatable time of just 45 to 90 seconds. These classic Italian preparation rules are not easy, and the highest attention is paid to the quality of the ingredients used.

Popular pizza creations and recommendations

The menu includes numerous of Ceccarelli's own creations, including the vegetarian Ortolana pizza, the delicious Bottega pizza and the Mortadella pizza. To round off the taste experience perfectly, Ceccarelli recommends a magical Lambrusco from Cantine Ceci in Emilia-Romagna. In the Google reviews, guests have repeatedly highlighted the high quality of the pizzas and the freshness of the ingredients, which makes the pizzeria a real insider tip in Braunschweig that you don't want to miss.

This is currently in the competition for the best pizzerias in Europe! The 50 Top Pizza Awards 2025 ceremony will take place in Madrid, where the trophies for the best pizzerias will be presented. The successes of Ceccarelli and Co. make it clear: high-quality ingredients, artisanal techniques and creative recipes are the secret weapons of pizza culture. Italy may traditionally have the best pizzerias, but the influence and artistry of pizza makers like Ceccarelli impressively demonstrate that excellent pizza is also being created outside of Italy's borders. It's definitely worth taking a look at the pizza culture in Germany!
