Anniversary celebration of the Child Protection Association: 50 years for children in Celle!
On June 16, 2025, a grandiose celebration took place at the Paul Klee School in Celle to mark the 50th anniversary of the Child Protection Association Ortsverband Celle e. V. celebrated. There was a huge rush - the inconspicuous rooms at Kuckuckstrasse 25 were far from enough to accommodate the many invited guests. The first visitors were welcomed with a welcome drink at 3:00 p.m. before the official part of the event began at 3:30 p.m. under the leadership of volunteer board member Bernd Menzel.
Menzel reviewed the history of the Child Protection Association. The German Child Protection Association was founded in 1953 and the local association in Celle followed in 1975. During the celebration, the former managing director Silvia Seibel reported on her experiences from 35 years of dedicated work in the association. The local association is currently led by Katrin Dornbusch, who has been in office since 2023. She spoke about the association's move and the central role that the child protection association plays for society.
Commitment to children and families
The Child Protection Association advocates for the rights of children and young people and offers a number of important programs and projects. Offers include:
- Begleiteter Umgang nach Trennung/Scheidung
- Informationsstelle für Familien
- Queere Jugend Celle (donnerstags von 17:00 bis 19:00 Uhr)
- Eltern-Kind-Gruppe für 0-3-Jährige (montags von 9:30 bis 11:30 Uhr)

These multi-layered offerings are designed to support children and families in difficult situations. The financial resources for operation are provided by the city of Celle, but additional donations are important to ensure the work of the child protection association in the long term.
Cultural entertainment and future plans
A musical highlight of the celebration were the performances by student Sofia and the performance by the student band Room 55. During an entertaining break, those present were able to enjoy a finger food buffet from the “kitchen heroes”. The next celebration as part of the 50th anniversary will take place on June 21, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the grounds of the Child Protection Association. An anniversary celebration awaits visitors there with play stations, creative activities and even the circus Knalltüte.
Wiebke Wietschel, head of the district's social department, and Sebastian Stottmeier, city councilor for education and social affairs, did not miss the opportunity to send their congratulations to the Child Protection Association. Their commitment underlines the important role this institution plays in the region. The Child Protection Association is not only a place of support, but also an association that strengthens the voice of children and young people in society.
Those interested can find further information and details about the Child Protection Association's offerings on the Kinderschutzbund website or can follow the activities of the local associations, such as the Bochum branch.
