Norris in pole position: Verstappen only 6th, Sainz is punished!

On October 26, 2025, Lando Norris is on pole position for the upcoming Mexican Grand Prix. The McLaren driver secured first place in an exciting qualifying and shows once again that he is in top form this season. How Starsport TV reported, Ferrari's Charles Leclerc qualified in second place, 0.262 seconds behind, followed by Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) in third place (+0.352).

George Russell, also of Mercedes, and Kimi Antonelli round out the top five in fourth and fifth, while Red Bull's Max Verstappen takes sixth place. Carlos Sainz, who also drives for Ferrari, only starts twelfth due to a penalty, although he achieved seventh place in qualifying. This gives Oscar Piastri the opportunity to move from eighth to seventh place.

The order and the points situation

Isack Hadjar (Racing Bulls) and Oliver Bearman (Haas), who finished the top 10 in ninth and tenth place, also appear in the extended qualifying list. A look at the drivers' scores reveals that Norris is close behind Piastri (346 points) with 332 points and could narrow the gap. Verstappen, who is third in the overall standings with 306 points, is also only 26 points behind Norris.
