Table tennis with heart: the Gottschlich family inspires Emden!
The Gottschlich family from Emden is united in a special way by their passion for table tennis. Father Ralf (60), mother Sandra (49) and son Nils (16) are not just a family, but also a well-rehearsed team that gives everything for their sport at Blau-Weiß Borssum (BWB). They are active every weekend and show how much table tennis is anchored in their lives. How nwzonline reported, the sporting activities are precisely divided: Nils plays in the district league on Friday, Ralf plays in the regional league on Saturday, while Sandra plays in the district league on Sunday.
Ralf drew inspiration from his father Martin, who also enjoyed table tennis. He started at the age of 14 after neighbors motivated him, and the way to the first games in 1978 was quickly paved. Over the years, Ralf made a career in various leagues, from the district league to the state league. By the way, Sandra caught the table tennis bug when she was 10 years old and has hardly taken a break since then, apart from a short maternity leave. Her son Nils, on the other hand, picked up the racket at the age of 7 and turned out to be a real talent who quickly achieved success in tournaments.
Table tennis in everyday family life
But the Gottschlichs don't just put their foot down on the field. They are also committed to the sport of table tennis on a functional level. Ralf and Sandra were awarded the district's badge of honor in silver and gold for their commitment and in memory of Ralf's late father. Nils is also active and helps with clean-up work and repairs in the table tennis division. The game is sometimes analyzed very intensively at the kitchen table, which, according to the family, has already led to conflicts between Ralf and Nils - Mama Sandra often has to mediate.
It's not just the sporting success that drives the family, but also the sense of community within the team. Nils dreams of playing in the Lower Saxony League, while Ralf is interested in the challenges of the association league. Sandra, on the other hand, appreciates the sociability in the district league team. Despite the intensive weekend planning, they sometimes find the numerous games a challenge, but remain loyal to the sport and the community. A side anecdote: Sandra even said that she would stop if Nils scored more points than her - which is already the case, but she still wants to continue playing.
At a time when many sporting activities are facing challenges, the Gottschlich family is a great example of how one can remain loyal to sport and the community with passion and commitment.
