Goslar shines as one of the best Christmas markets in Europe!
One Christmas market that is coming into the spotlight this year is the Christmas market in Goslar. This market recently received the coveted “Excellent European Christmas Market” quality seal from the European Excellent Christmas Market Association (EECMA). This makes it one of the best Christmas markets in Europe, as Kreiszeitung reports. This is all the more remarkable because the award is only given to twelve markets on the continent and has therefore established itself as a real specialty.
With this award, the EECMA aims to honor Christmas markets that not only offer tradition and atmosphere, but also integrate sustainability and quality of experience. The evaluation is carried out by an independent jury, which ensures that the seal is awarded according to clear, transparent criteria. Unlike many other awards, the EECMA seal cannot be purchased, making the honors particularly valuable. The award ceremony has been held annually since 2023, and the Goslar Christmas market is one of the first to receive this honor, as Weihnachtswald fully states.
Special features of the Goslar Christmas market
The Christmas market in Goslar takes place in the picturesque UNESCO World Heritage old town, which impresses with more than 1,500 half-timbered houses from the 15th to 19th centuries. This impressive backdrop creates a true winter fairytale atmosphere. The market opens its doors from November 26th to December 30th, 2025 and offers around 70 festively decorated wooden huts that showcase a variety of culinary and craft products.
A real highlight is the Christmas forest, which creates a special atmosphere with around 60 illuminated conifers and over 160,000 lights. The Christmas forest is open every day from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and closes at 10 p.m. on the festive days. On Christmas Eve, visitors can visit it from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., while on Christmas Day it is open from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
In addition, the traditional lantern parade, which takes place on November 26th at the opening, should not be missed. Together with the Christmas market in the former Rammelsberg mine, which only opens for two days, guests can expect a diverse and musical festival.
