Blaupunkt deleted after over 100 years – end of an audio legend!
The legendary Blaupunkt Technology GmbH, a German audio specialist with an impressive history spanning over 100 years, will finally be removed from the commercial register. As the Hildesheim district court confirmed, the insolvency proceedings were officially concluded after almost ten years. The final payouts to creditors have now been released, marking the end of an era. The move follows the company's self-administration, which was applied for in 2015 but failed to produce viable business models. Intensive discussions with possible investors were unsuccessful, so the brand only lives on as a licensed brand.
The last eight years have been characterized by complicated insolvency processes. Among other things, licensing issues and creditor claims had to be clarified, which significantly delayed the process. Six years after the bankruptcy, the location in Hildesheim, where Blaupunkt once had its roots, had to be closed and the remaining 33 employees were laid off. The loss goes beyond the employees, because with the sale of important business areas such as the car audio division to Premium Sound Solutions from Belgium and the engineering department to Răzvan Olosu, the company's technical know-how is also lost.
The future of the Blaupunkt brand
Although the company no longer exists as an operational player, the Blaupunkt brand name is still used. From 2023, the trademark rights will be in the hands of the US company Established, which will now license the brand for household appliances and consumer electronics. The previous Blaupunkt products therefore come from licensed production, and the logo remains as the only remaining legacy of the once renowned brand. It is a sad end to a company history that began in Berlin in 1924, when Blaupunkt was founded as Ideal Radiotelefon- & Apparatefabrik GmbH and released Europe's first car radio in 1932.
With growing competition from Japan and the decision of many car manufacturers to develop their own infotainment systems, Blaupunkt's importance has steadily declined in recent years. The company's areas of expertise, particularly in car hi-fi, have been leading for some time, but now the technical knowledge lies where innovation once flourished.
Bankruptcies in context
While Blaupunkt is now making its final moves, news is also coming from other areas of the industry that show a dark trend. A furniture factory had to file for bankruptcy for the second time in nine years, which could have alarming consequences for both employees and the regional economy. The coming weeks will be critical for the survival of this company.
According to the Federal Statistical Office The number of bankruptcies is increasing and other companies are also under pressure. This development makes it clear that the challenges in the economic market are becoming ever greater, not only for Blaupunkt, but for many companies in Germany. It can therefore be hoped that the innovative strength will remain in other sectors and that they will achieve an upswing.
