New fast charging station in Ostercappeln: E-mobility is experiencing a boom!

Electromobility is really picking up speed in Germany and the municipality of Ostercappeln is also well on its way to keeping up with the latest developments. A new fast charging station with an output of 50 kW was recently put into operation at Johann-Ernst-Hanxleden-Platz Osnabrück municipal utilities report. The Osnabrück Parkstätten-Betriebsgesellschaft (OPG) is responsible, which is part of its strategy to expand the e-charging infrastructure in the Osnabrück district to meet needs.

The OPG already has over 300 charging points in operation in the city and district, ranging from AC charging points with 22 kW to DC fast chargers with up to 300 kW. Mayor Erik Ballmeyer highlights the increasing demand for electric vehicles in the community and sees the new charging station as a low-threshold offer for the population and visitors to the region. “There is real added value here for everyone,” he is convinced.

Important step towards the mobility transition

The importance of such locations is once again emphasized by OPG product manager Esther Peddi. Practical solutions are the key to the mobility transition, and the partnership with OPG plays a crucial role in this. The latest project supports the expansion of a comprehensive and user-friendly charging network in Ostercappeln and the surrounding area.

In 2024, over 1.6 million kilowatt hours of electricity were charged at OPG charging stations, representing an impressive increase of more than 30 percent compared to the previous year. And it is expected that this trend will continue in the coming years. The Federal Network Agency also offers an interactive map that shows charging facilities of all operators who have completed the notification process. This makes it easier for e-car drivers to find the right charging facility.

Expansion of the charging infrastructure in Germany

The charging infrastructure is not only crucial for the operation of electric cars, it is also central to promoting electromobility. According to Statista, the federal government's goal is to create a nationwide network of one million charging points by 2030. The expansion of fast charging stations is seen as particularly important for the acceptance of electric cars. Nevertheless, there are still many normal charging points in Germany that offer up to 22 kW, but the number of fast charging points is growing.

In January 2025, the average charging power per charging point in Germany was around 37.7 kW. A particularly noteworthy point is that the state of Bavaria has the most public charging points in January 2025, while Thuringia boasts the highest average charging performance. The expansion of the charging infrastructure is not just a question of supply, but also of constantly growing demand!

The new fast charging station in Ostercappeln is a real step in the right direction, and it will be exciting to see how electromobility will develop in the coming years. With the support of initiatives such as the OPG and the Federal Network Agency, the way is paved for sustainable and future-oriented mobility.
