Sunshine and folk festival: Day of Lower Saxony inspires in Osnabrück!
The popular Lower Saxony Day took place in Osnabrück on August 30, 2025, an event that attracted thousands of visitors to the city center. The wonderful weather played a crucial role that day in drawing people out onto the streets. Folk dance groups, traditional costume clubs, gymnastics clubs, choirs and even circus groups performed on a colorful program that started in the morning. The city experienced a lively hustle and bustle that reflected the charm and diversity of the region, as NDR reports.
Visitors were able to explore ten different theme miles, which were designed by environmental associations, the police and religious communities, among others. A special highlight was the ringing of the church bells at 4:48 p.m., which commemorated the Peace of Westphalia of 1648. In the evening, numerous artists such as Stefanie Heinzmann and the DONOTS provided the best entertainment on eight stages.
A colorful program for everyone
The festival was not only a place for gatherings, but also for information. Over 200 clubs and initiatives presented themselves at the information and adventure mile, with the focus on volunteering and disaster protection. The NDR also provided a special accent by setting up its own world of experiences that offered insights into the working world of radio and television.
Another attraction was the Sunday shopping, when the shops were open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The mayor, Katharina Pötter (CDU), highlighted the diversity of Osnabrück and highlighted the city's advantages as a venue. This year Lower Saxony Day was held in Osnabrück for the first time, having previously taken place in places such as Lingen, Meppen and Melle.
A well organized event
The journey to the event was well thought out, with an effective transport concept. Four park-and-ride areas were set up, and shuttle buses took visitors to the city center free of charge. The A30, A33 and A1 motorways as well as the B51 and B68 federal highways were a great help for the journey. The venues were cycled with 3,000 additional bike racks to accommodate the large number of cyclists.
The program continued on Sunday with dance groups, sports clubs and choirs. For the little guests there was also the dinosaur band Heavysaurus, which was sure to make children's eyes shine. Unfortunately, Mando Diao's performance had to be canceled, but the DONOTS performed instead and continued to create a great atmosphere.
In addition to the many offers, visitors to the Osnabrück region can also expect numerous other events and festivals in the warmer seasons, which often take place in a particularly inviting atmosphere. A diverse calendar of events shows that supra-regional highlights await visitors here. These trends promise that Osnabrück will remain a popular place for short vacations and special experiences, as the regional organizers also emphasize.
A successful weekend for everyone involved and a promising future for the Day of Lower Saxony in Osnabrück - it remains exciting to see what the coming years will bring.
