Have a say: Salzgitter is calling for a citizen survey!
Things are going well in Salzgitter when it comes to the future of the districts! The city administration has now created a platform with a comprehensive citizen survey that enables all interested citizens to actively participate in city development. This initiative is a central component of the Integrated Urban Development Concept (ISEK), which was first launched in 2004 and is now being updated. According to regionalheute.de, citizens can enter their ideas and suggestions on interactive maps without prior registration until August 31, 2025.
The main focus this year is on the districts of Lebenstedt, Thiede and Salzgitter-Bad. As part of district workshops that will take place in the respective districts in autumn 2025, citizens will have their say directly on site. These events not only promise exciting discussions, but also the opportunity to incorporate the needs and wishes of the population into urban planning. The workshops in Lebenstedt, Thiede, Gebhardshagen and Salzgitter-Bad will focus on specific topics: from north and northwest development in Lebenstedt to urban development in the south of Salzgitter-Bad.
Important topics in focus
The ISEK pursues three central guiding themes that are intended to keep the city of Salzgitter on track: the transformation of the historic industrial location, the creation of a child- and family-friendly learning city and the development of green and open spaces, with particular attention to adaptation to climate change. These aspects are even more important in view of the current challenges. Radio38 notes that strategic planning is of central importance in order to meet the challenges facing Salzgitter.
The city also offers citizens a user-friendly online participation platform that allows them to easily submit their own suggestions and ideas. Especially at a time when forecasts are uncertain and changes can occur quickly, as the study by the Federal Institute for Building, Urban and Spatial Research states, it is crucial that the city administration reacts flexibly and adaptively.
Participation as a key to development
With this initiative, the city of Salzgitter shows that it takes citizen participation seriously. By having the opportunity to actively participate in the development of their own living space, citizens can not only point out existing challenges, but also contribute their own ideas for the future. There is no need for a complicated procedure to be heard - everything happens just a few clicks away. The city administration is excited about the citizens' ideas and hopes to receive diverse and constructive feedback.
Overall, Salzgitter is facing an exciting phase of development. The combination of citizen participation and strategic planning will lay the foundation for a livable and sustainable city. It remains to be seen what impulses the citizens will give to the district workshops and ultimately to the entire ISEK.
