Greifswald neurosurgeon Prof. Schroeder receives Innovator Award 2025!

A big day for neurosurgery: Prof. Henry Schroeder, director of the clinic and polyclinic for neurosurgery at Greifswald University Medicine, was awarded the prestigious Innovator Award 2025 honored. This award is presented every two years by the International Federation of Neuroendoscopy (IFNE) and recognizes Schroeder for his life's work and his significant contribution to the development of minimally invasive techniques in neurosurgery.

The award was presented to him at the World Congress of Neuroendoscopy, an event that is becoming increasingly important as innovative procedures continue to gain in relevance. Neuroendoscopy makes it possible to protect sensitive brain structures through less invasive approaches, which leads to faster healing and fewer complications. Among other things, Schroeder developed the Lotta ventriculoscope, which provides high-resolution images of hard-to-reach brain regions.

But who is Henry W. S. Schroeder? The native of Prenzlau, born in 1963, completed his medical studies and doctorate at the Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald. After his time as an assistant doctor and senior physician at the same university, he took on the position of university professor and director of neurosurgery in Greifswald in 2005. His main interest is neuroendoscopic surgery.

His research focuses on, among other things, the treatment of arachnoid cysts and the treatment of intraventricular processes. For his commitment, he has written numerous publications in specialist journals and is a member of various medical societies, including the German Society for Neurosurgery and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons Wikipedia reported.

Minimally invasive techniques are on the rise

Not just in Greifswald, also in other clinics like that Munich Clinic Bogenhausen, state-of-the-art minimally invasive technologies are used. Special surgical microscopes and high-resolution endoscopes can be used to carry out operations that can be carried out through small access openings. This technique not only provides better vision, but also protects the surrounding tissue, improving the approval of the treatment processes.

Developments in the field of neurosurgical techniques show how important innovative approaches and technologies are for medical practice. With his life's work and his developments, Prof. Henry Schroeder represents a crucial part of this progress.
