Goslar goes digital: New Dok-Box for passports and ID cards!
A breath of fresh air for the citizen service in Goslar: The city has now installed a new document issuing box, also known as a “Dok-Box”. What this means for citizens is that passports and ID cards can now be picked up around the clock, seven days a week. Like the city on its website reported, the Dok-Box is located in the main entrance of the city administration and offers comfortable space for 152 output compartments.
“The Dok-Box is a step towards digital administration,” explains a city spokesman. In this way, Goslar is responding to the growing need for flexible citizen services. When applying for an ID card, a mobile phone number is now recorded. After depositing the document in the box, users receive an SMS with a personal PIN code. Citizens then need this code, the stored cell phone number and the old identification document to collect the item. The highlight: The cell phone number will be deleted after collection in accordance with data protection regulations.
Easy access and accessibility
Another plus: Access to the Dok-Box is barrier-free, but only during the city administration's normal opening hours. This not only increases the flexibility of citizens, but also creates the opportunity to avoid the often long waiting times when dealing with authorities. “Digitalization makes it possible for us to significantly accelerate many processes,” said the city administration.
Digitalization is not only very popular in Goslar; it is a central issue for many municipalities in Germany. According to that Municipal Digital Forum The Citizens' Office is the most important point of contact between the city and citizens. The background is clear: Statistically speaking, every citizen needs a service from the Citizens' Registration Office every five years, be it for an ID card, passport or change of residence.
Better service offerings through digitalization
With the introduction of the Dok-Box, the city has taken a further step towards the ambitious goal of digital administration. The Online Access Act (OZG) obliges the federal government, states and municipalities to offer administrative services digitally by the end of 2022. More and more citizens' offices have already successfully digitized their processes and are therefore offering numerous services online.
