New daycare center opened on Brotweg in Salzgitter: A step towards integration!
On June 13, 2025, the new daycare center in Brotweg in Salzgitter-Thiede was ceremoniously inaugurated. The Caritas Association Salzgitter takes over the administration of the facility, which is generously equipped with 50 places for the daycare center and 30 places for the crèche. At the inauguration, Mayor Frank Klingebiel emphasized the importance of the daycare center as a place for community and integration.
The inauguration marks the second new daycare building celebration within a short period of time. The Zingel daycare center in Salzgitter-Lichtenberg was only inaugurated on June 5th. This facility also offers space for 50 kindergarten and 30 crèche children. Both projects are part of an extensive initiative by the city of Salzgitter, which has created around 1,000 new daycare places in recent years.
Investments in the future
The new daycare center in Brotweg is designed as an exercise daycare center, which focuses on promoting sporting activities and community experiences. The city of Salzgitter and the state of Lower Saxony have jointly invested in the new building. The costs for the new kindergarten amount to 6.5 million euros, with the city and the state each covering half of the costs. Financing comes from the integration fund, which was negotiated by Prime Minister Stephan Weil in 2017.
When the daycare center was built, great emphasis was placed on quality. A previous building on this site was demolished at a cost of 160,000 euros to make room for the new, modern facility. Mayor Klingebiel emphasized that only a solid investment in daycare centers and schools can lay the foundation for positive future development of urban society.
From the Zingel daycare center and other new buildings
The first children at Kita Zingel are expected to start operating in the next few weeks. With a total cost of almost 7.6 million euros, this facility paid particular attention to climate-friendly construction. This includes a photovoltaic system and a heat pump. According to Dr. Ulrike Witt, the state representative for regional development in Braunschweig, daycare centers are not only places of education, but also social anchors in the community.
In addition, a third inauguration will take place in Salzgitter-Bad in the coming days, continuing the initiative to create additional places for early childhood education in the region.
Integration in early education
An important aspect of the new daycare centers is integrative education. According to the guidelines of the Lower Saxony educational offer, the joint upbringing of children with and without disabilities is not only desirable, but also stipulated by law. The aim is to enable all children to achieve educational success and social participation from an early age. Specialists with special qualifications will ensure that special education support is also part of the offer in the facilities.
The new daycare centers in Salzgitter place a clear emphasis on modern, integrative educational strategies, which represent a step in the right direction both spatially and in terms of content.
The inauguration of these new facilities is a sign that things are moving forward in Salzgitter - for the children and the entire community.
